Feasting on "Game of Thrones"

Not a movie but who cares? HBO's red-hot "Game of Thrones" is four episodes deep into its first of inevitably many seasons and I'm totally addicted. Last night I made Michael stay up until the ungodly hours of the wee morning (it wasn't very difficult) because I just couldn't turn "Game of Thrones" off. The first episode is immediately gripping, weaving the show's sprawling mythology into the fabric of its first installment right from the opening scene...and by the time it wraps up an hour later with a kid peeping in a tower window on the Queen taking it from behind from her own brother, the shows hooks are IN.

(Caitlin mentioned she would be spending last Sunday evening checking out this show she'd heard so much about for the first time...with her dad. I've been wondering how she liked it, but also whether it was awkward at all given all the scandalous behavior on display here. Couldn't possibly have been as awkward as Darci's recent recounting of how she spent her Easter: watching "Black Swan" with her mom and two teenaged stepbrothers.)

This show has got it all: epic fantasy melodrama, rival clans competing for power and glory, royal incest, dragon eggs, arranged marriage between savage and princess, titties, ass, wolves as pets, a token wisecracking dwarf, murder of children, lesbian sexy times, homoerotically charged sidelong glances between squires, a king's bastard son, monstrous evil beings who threaten to destroy all of mankind, and a giant stone wall constructed generations ago to keep said ghoulish beings from making good on those threats. The opening credits are amazing, and the "Game of Thrones" theme will be stuck in my head all day, week, probably month, and maybe even year. Thank you, HBO.
